Snapshot Automation
Snapshot Automation with SANsnap!™
InfraStor's
SANsnap!™ is designed to work with the optional snapshot
capability of DataCore Software's storage virtualization software
products SANsymphony™ and SANmelody™.
DataCore's hardware independent storage virtualization products provide powerful mechanisms for collecting block-level, point-in-time snapshots that can be used for many tasks, including backup. However, command-line scripts must be manually created for coordinating the cache flushes, enabling the snapshots, and mounting them on a target device.
In a complex environment, the collection of the necessary information and management of these snapshots requires careful record keeping and intimate knowledge of the storage and server connection architecture.
InfraStor's SANsnap! software vastly simplifies the storage infrastructure data collection, and enables flexible drag and drop, real-time, automated data snapshot capabilities that can be integrated with any backup solution, disaster recovery, business continuance or remote data replication scheme.
SANsnap! offers a combination of a Java™ based GUI, along with a simple CLI command-set that can be easily integrated into pre- and post-processing scripts for automation of real-time backup or other snap-shot operations in a secure environment.
larger imageA single SANsnap! command replaces complicated custom-written scripts to take a point-in-time snapshot of one, or many virtual volumes, and automatically mounts them on the desired SAN-connected device. SANsnap! also allows the implementation of proper security controls and authentication. Data communications are encrypted to prevent un-authorized data access.
Application Awareness
Application-specific functions can be combined with SANsnap! to accomplish such objectives such as quiescing a database. Normally such steps must be taken before allowing SANsnap! or the DataCore Snapshot option to operate on a volume set used by database applications in order to ensure that a consistent data set is captured in the snapshot.
